“Nagsimula kami noong September 6, 2019 sa simpleng pag-aya na tumugtog-tugtog lang. And after a few hours ng pagtugtog ay naisipan na naming magbuo ng banda at gumawa ng kanta”, says Six Degrees.

“Nagrerent kami ng studio para makapag-jamming after school at kadalasan ginagabi na kami.  Puro practice kami ng aming compositions para makapag-release ng songs sa mga streaming platforms.”

Their music influences are My Chemical Romance, All Time Low, Green Day, and OPM bands such as Hale, Parokya ni Edgar, 6CycleMind. “Each band member has different taste in genre so we decided to focus on these bands as influences because they give us the nostalgic feeling each time we play our own compositions and instruments.”

Just like other bands, Six Degrees encountered challenges.  “We felt like we were discriminated at first during some of our gigs. Understandably because we were still new in the scene. But we were able to overcome and gained enough confidence to face a larger audience.”

“Perhaps we also had fake friends because they bashed and insulted our craft.  They thought that our band will not be able to stay long enough.”

“School schedules became a challenge due to research work, mid-term, and final exams.  There was a professor who reminded us to focus on our studies otherwise we’d fail if we couldn’t cope up with school work and may not be able to graduate. That motivated us to balance school and our passion for music.”

“Some of our parents were also strict since most of the band members were still minors then. We also had limited sets of gigs because most of our members cannot commit on coming on time.  Also, we had limited personal equipment and had to rent a studio to video or record our songs.”

Six Degrees has released two songs now various music platforms (Spotify, YouTube etc.)  These are ‘Samahan Mo Ako’ (with Gian this time on vocals) and ‘Truly Mean’.  While two song are set for release – ‘Someone’ and ‘Daydream’.  These two upcoming songs will be produced by Kulas Music Production, owned by their drummer Nicholas.

The band also has a big heart to help.  “We’ve participated in various online gigs for a cause.  One is the event hosted by Human PH for typhoon victims at Cagayan de Oro in 2020.  While this year, we were invited to participate at the Oris Project for their event – (PARA SA KIYAW) A Fundraising Concert.  We are happy to help and reach out to others by simply playing our music for them.  It is an honor to help those in need.”

They are extending gratitude to those who made an impact to Six Degrees.  “We want to thank God for giving us our talents and for guiding us all the way. Also a big thanks to our families – our beloved parents for your love and support. We will always keep on going with our goals. Our loved ones who are always there through all our struggles and wins. Thank you for nurturing our talents and giving everything you could provide for us.   And to our followers and streamers, because of you that we are dedicated to create more wonderful music. And because of you that Six Degrees is here today. Salamat.”

“Special thanks to Carl Laurence Miranda (founder of Musikang Lokal) for opening the door of opportunities. Because of Musikang Lokal, we would not have gotten this far.  We would also like to thank these amazing producers – Reeve Aquino of R.iv Music and Ian Joshua (Master Ian) of Idiyanale Productions for creating life and sound to our music.”

The band’s message for aspiring artists and bands. “Ipagpatuloy lang natin ang ating mga ginagawa. Huwag nating itigil kahit paunti-unti lang ang mga achievements natin. At huwag din tayong magpapatibag sa mga sasabihin ng iba diyan. Dahil tayo lang mismo ang gagawa ng ating path.”

“Just continue on doing everything because every little step will become huge someday.  Don’t be discouraged just because people look down on your craft because it will be a reflection of your future success.  Do what you want to do and someday you will realize how far you have gotten”.

The message of Six Degrees for Mendira Media “Walang mapagsidlan ng tuwa nung nalaman namin na mai-feature na kami sa Mendira website. First of all, nagpapasalamat kami kay God na gumawa ng way para umangat ang mga nasa indie scene kagaya namin. And ang Mendira Media ang ginamit Niyang way para matupad yun. Thank you Mendira for giving us this opportunity… kasi sino nga ba kami? But Mendira made us realize na hindi lang kami basta kung sino lang. Kaya malaki ang pasasalamat namin. We can’t even explain the joy na sa wakas mai-feature na din kami. And hopefully Mendira can help more aspiring artists like us to reach the top. And hopefully mag grow pa po ang Mendirafam. Thanks again.”

Keep an eye on Six Degrees, as the band to watch this 2021.
